Belfast: Cost of Living Demonstration

Members of the IWW in Belfast will be joining the demonstration called by the ‘Cost of Living Coalition’ to tackle the ongoing cost of living crisis.

On Saturday 18th June at 12:30pm, various trade and community unions will come together to demand change as the cost of living skyrockets.

While undoubtedly this demonstration will focus on the impotent powers of Stormont, Dublin, and Westminster to ‘step in’ and ‘get back to work’ we believe that only a militant and independent working class can ever tackle the problems we face.

We know that rising energy prices, commodities, and rents are not an accident but part of the design. The increasing squeeze on working class people is part and parcel of the system that rules our lives: capitalism. Rather than a ‘cost of living’ crisis, we once again face the reality of a world strangled by global capital and wage slavery.

Politicians and bureaucrats will not save us. The Industrial Workers of the World will always maintain that, “There can be no peace so long as hunger and want are found among millions of the working people and the few, who make up the employing class, have all the good things of life.

Between these two classes a struggle must go on until the workers of the world organise as a class, take possession of the means of production, abolish the wage system, and live in harmony with the Earth.”

For the abolition of the wage system, the overthrow of capitalism, and a new world built in the shell of the old!
