Thank you to the trainers and the members who attended the latest OT 101 training in Dublin over the weekend.
One of the fellow workers who participated in the latest training kindly wrote up an overview of their own experience of the OT 101 Training Session.
Between the 19th and 20th of October, two WISE-RA fellow workers provided organiser training to the Dublin branch. The training went over basic theoretical matters such as the peculiarities of the IWW and more practical skills like how to listen to co-workers well, set up one-to-ones, create social maps, write petitions, and march towards the boss.
Besides lecturing, the trainers created exercises for the students to practice applying the knowledge being taught. Of note, the trainees created social maps of their workplaces, listened to their fellow workers' grievances, wrote a petition to their managers, and practised marching towards the boss twice, with the role of the boss being played alternately by one of our WISE-RA fellow workers and by the Irish branch secretary.
The Irish workers involved in organising the meeting did an outstanding job. They provided the WISE-RA visitors with an accommodation and ensured that the students were safe and looked after. Coronavirus tests were distributed prior to the beginning of the training and food was provided, which the trainees were extremely grateful for.
The training was, in the view of both the organisers and the attendees, quite successful in conveying the necessary knowledge. The meetings stayed on topic and the trainees paid attention and took notes. The training also had the additional benefit of attracting two new members into the union.
If you're a member and haven't yet participated in the OT 101 then please register for the next training session. Training for (Old & New) fellow workers takes place around the country periodically.
