Several images from this evenings anti-racist demonstration in Derry city centre. A representative of the IWW Union Derry spoke as the protest began stating: "At a time when counter protests are beginning to take place across both islands against recent racist attacks, we're glad to see our city take a stand against it.
"This week we have witnessed racist attacks on shops, hotels and other premises as well as on migrant worker's. Never before have we witnessed such levels of racial, islamaphobic or xenophobic hatred. What is needed is a unifying force from both the community and workplace, such as what we are witnessing here today.
"We are are demanding an end to this hatred and we're saying enough is enough. We are saying that such fear and division is unacceptable, and will not tolerated. Be that within our communities, within our workplaces and within our homes. The fear and hatred that they are attempting to spread will not isolate or divide our class which is why we say that - An Injury To One is an Injury to All!"
Many speakers from the platform condemned recent racist incidents and called upon similar solidarity actions to be encouraged and supported.
