The international day of solidarity with 6 de la Suiza took place on Saturday 28th September in an effort to highlight the assault upon 6 trade union activists of the CNT Xixón in the Spanish State.
Members of the IWW Union Ireland branch in Derry took part in the day of action, holding a solidarity action at Free Derry Wall. An international symbol and a symbolic focal point locally since the days of the Civil Rights Campaign of the 1960's, in is a location for many to help raise awareness of social injustice by the state, either nationally or internationally.
A spokesperson for the IWW Derry members who took part in the action said: "Around the country and internationally, our comrades in the CNT will here our call for solidarity with 6 de la Suiza .
"This is an important struggle which will effect all trade unions throughout the Spanish State. Other countries within Europe are also looking closely at the outcome as it's said that it may even have wider ramifications as governments seek to claw back on important gains made by workers on the shop floor and on pickets lines.
"Our action is a symbolic one of international solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the CNT at this time. Our action today is to let them know that they are not alone. We know as they do, the other international solidarity actions are taking place at the same time. We demand that all charges are dropped immediately against the 6 CNT Xixón women. We are here to say that syndicalism is not a crime!"
