Last month, the IWW Ireland branch hosted an online Sex Worker Awareness Training provided by SWAI (Sex Workers Alliance Ireland) as part of our allyship commitment to support sex workers’ demands for the decriminalisation of sex work, as per our union motion passed in 2018 https://iww.org.uk/news/sex-work-is-work-iww-supports-full-decriminalisation/
The training gave Fellow Workers an opportunity to enhance their knowledge on:
What is sex work
Appropriate language and terminology
Barriers, stigma, and discrimination experienced by sex workers
Models of laws, what do sex workers want?
Sex worker services including information about SWAI
How you can provide sew worker-friendly services
The event was very well attended and we look forward to keep building relationships of solidarity with SWAI, that can lead to the creation of a network within the IWW for sex workers wishing to organise in their workplace to find support, advice and assistance in doing so.
If you are a member and would like to take part in regular IWW training then please contact the local organiser or email the following ireland@iww.org.uk
