Sex Workers Alliance Ireland have agreed to hold a Sex Workers Awareness Training for IWW members at 19:00 on Monday 18th November. Please find details of the zoom meeting via union email, and please let us know if you have any accessibility requests for this training.
Mardi Kennedy, co-ordinator of SWAI says “For over a decade I have worked with sex workers in Melbourne, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland as an advocate, educator and support worker. This training has been developed with sex workers and delivered to various human rights, health and LGBTQIA+ organisations, colleges and universities, human rights festivals, sex therapists, art spaces and more. We receive consistent, positive feedback and gratitude for sharing our sex worker-informed, first-hand knowledge. This training is for everyone and we would love to deliver it to you!".
Why are we delivering this training?
In 2018, IWW WISE-RA passed a motion in support of the full decriminalisation of sex work:
As part of that motion, the union commits to "work, support, and show solidarity with organisations championing the rights of sex workers that are sex worker led and focused, to the exclusion of anyone who seeks to oppress, exploit or silence sex workers''.
The IWW Ireland branch recently passed a motion to join the Sex Workers Alliance Ireland (SWAI) allies network in an effort to commit our support to sex workers demands for the decriminalisation of sex work. As part of this commitment, we will attend the online Sex Worker Awareness Training provided by SWAI.
