Today, April 28th, International Worker's Memorial Day. #WorkersMemorialDay #IWW #WMD #WMD2023 #unionisethefight
Today we commemorate workers who have been injured or killed on the job due to unsafe working conditions.
On a day such as today we recall the words of Helen Keller's on the topic of why she joined the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), our union:
"I was appointed on a commission to investigate the conditions of the blind. For the first time I, who had thought blindness a misfortune beyond human control, found that too much of it was traceable to wrong industrial conditions, often caused by the selfishness and greed of employers."
The historic mission of the IWW has been for workers to have power in their workplace because workers do not underpay themselves, do not create unsafe working conditions for themselves, and do not lie to and cheat themselves.
We hope you, like all workers, are safe today as organised labour fought to ensure safe and healthy working conditions and will continue to do so everyday.
If you are not in a union already, you can join the IWW wherever you work or live and help continue the fight to unionise. You can do so by clicking on the following link: www.iww.org.uk/join
